Melitta sighed and shut the door to my little abode, figuring it was time for some exploring since maybe the height of Spring's Eve had died down a bit. With her purse on my back, she thought it was a pretty day to enjoy the fresh air. She thought maybe the embarrassment of her entrance to Bovine Bluffs had died down. The thought of being called a flasher had her cheeks darken again and thought about going back inside the house. “C'mon Melitta, surely no one can remember that… Maybe Jasper, but you can always avoid the cafe!Just don't go in there and you'll be fine!”
She told myself, trying to get the courage to leave her little home. “Besides, you don't have to engage in social interaction, just go exploring! Yeah you got this!” Cheering herself on and ignoring the odd looks as she walked through the city, figuring out the paths and what shops to check out later when she needed a few things. When she saw Brewed for You, she hurriedly passed the big glass panes that looked inside of the lovely smelling coffee shop.
Temptation to head in there and get a cup for the day while she explored… but then she remembered that the barista she ran into was the one who told her about seeing her underwear. She flinched at meeting the cute batista and him bringing it up was not an option. If she wanted a cup of coffee, she could head home.
While in thought, she had taken some path that was dirt. Walking mindlessly, she followed it, just like the moo who was told to follow the yellow brick road in one of the novels Melitta had read when she was a little calf. Another reminder of home that made her long for familiarity and those she knew.
But she wanted to put on her big girl panties and brave the world out past her childhood home. The river and the woods that encompassed the property was her favorite. The way the setting sun hit the water just right when it was setting turned the water a gold color or when the moon was full, how it illuminates on the water with silver ripples. Even running down the metal dock that hurt her hooves where she jumped into the water during the hot summers.
Her ears perked when she heard a tiny trickle, head turned towards the source, she saw a stream. Normally, that meant there was a larger body of water it would feed into. Feeling the sense of adventure, she eagerly followed it! The sounds of the whippoorwill calling and the sunlight coming through the trees caused her to be eager, little explorer again. Tail wagging excitedly and dirt crunching under her hoof.
Finally, slowly down as she came into a clearing, she saw it was a watering hole. Not as majestic as the river back home, but quiet enough to where there was no else around her. Frogs croaked loudly as she realized the sun was beginning to set, turning the watering hole that golden color she was familiar with once more.
Walking by to the water, she found a rock to sit on, placing her bag on top of it as well to soak her hooves in the lapping water of the shore. Closing her eyes, she heard the gentle breeze whisper through the tree leaves. “This is nice,” she thought, starting to feel sleepy from relaxing to the sound of Mother Nature's gentle words of encouragement through her own means.
But it would have to end for now. She sighed as she realized how dark it was getting and if she wanted to find her way back into town, she had best leave now or she would sleep out here. Sighing, Melitta got up from her rock to grab her back to follow the creek back to the city. Knowing she would be back here again.
Maybe Bovine Bluffs wouldn't be so bad. She just had to find her own way rather than trying to hide out in her little home. Give the Moos here a chance to show her they were welcoming of her just as she wanted to meet them as well. Leaving it to chance had its perks.
Finally braving to leave her house after her embarrassing entrance into Bovine Bluffs, she found a quiet spot while exploring.
