A Warm Summer's Day | Druidic Training

It had been a number of weeks now since spring had sprung and brought new life to the Bluffs, the temperatures continued to grow warmer, the days grew longer as time marched on like a steady arrow. For Truffle it had also been a number of days since she started visiting the sweet goddess Cybele for private lessons regarding the nature of magic. After their first encounter Truffle and Vanessa were left befuddled and astonished that the great pantheon spent periods of time roaming the mortal plane of Verdan, and of all the Moos that resides in Bovine Bluffs Rune somehow knew and was a dear friend to their beloved goddess? The thoughts of the what, why, and how left Truffles' head spinning for days to come as she wrestled to make sense of this revelation.

It took her a week before she returned to Cybele’s house.

Since then Truffle had been coming on a regular basis, first it was just once a week and quickly increased to two, three times a week. The young Moo was mesmerized by the goddess of fertility, and just how warm and welcoming she was to those who sought her out. Truffle had always expected the gods to be a little on the snootier side seeing as they were held in such high regards by the residents of Verdan, but Cybele seemed to be very down to earth and laid back, but even so she enjoyed her privacy and Truffle knew better than to pry whether she unintentionally upset the goddess.

It had been some months now since Truffle first returned to Cybele’s house in search of learning more about magic and the great pantheon. Throughout the days her magic had gotten stronger and more refined as she continued to practice under the fertility goddess’s watchful gaze, though Truffle couldn’t help but wonder once Spring had all but come and gone and the warmer months of summer arrived if there lessons would come to a screeching halt as well until next spring. Would she even be allowed to continue practicing without Cybele there to help keep a watchful eye on her and her progress? It was hard to say.

The warm summer air rustled the treetops drawing Truffle out of her thoughts, she had offered to help Cybele with her garden today and was attempting to use it as a way to continue practicing with her magic. She was crouched down in front of a section of the garden where Cybele had been tending to some vegetables throughout the duration of spring. Truffle pressed her hands against the soil, a dull green glow radiating from her fingertips as the weeds surrounding some of the vegetation started to recede allowing the growing vegetation more room to breathe. She smiled, allowing herself to sit down for a moment in the warm grass, reveling in the serenity of Cybele’s home.

“You’re getting better my dear” Truffle’s ears perked up at Cybele’s praise as the goddess approached from another section of the garden. She crouched down beside Truffle examining the health leaves of the summer vegetables she had planted earlier in the season. “Wonderful, now let’s see if you can make something bigger grow” She spoke before standing up motioning for Truffle to follow her. Brows raised ever so slightly as Truffle stood from her spot following the fertility goddess to a barren spot in the garden, the only thing there was a small, newly planted sapling.

“It will take years for this tree to reach maturity, and I wanted to see if perhaps you could help it along a little bit in its process” Cybele instructed before turning her attention towards Truffle. The Moo looked puzzled for a moment before stepping towards the little sapling. It was hard to tell what kind of tree it was at first glance, but she knelt down before the tree, examining its thin branches and delicate leaves. Truffle slid her hands against the damp soil, palms resting against the base of the tree before letting out an exhale. The dull green glow radiated from her fingertips once again, she could envision the growth in her mind. Picturing the little sapling changing with each passing day, passing season, and passing year, she wasn’t quite used to forcing something as large as a tree to spring to life, and she could feel the physical strain on her body as she exerted herself and her magical capabilities. Eventually the glow faded leaving Truffles panting, body shaking as she had over exerted herself, her gaze turned up towards the tree. It wasn’t quite full grown like she had been hoping to achieve, but it bloomed into an adolescent birch tree. She smiled warmly at the progress before turning her attention back towards Cybele.

“Unfortunately, I think that’s all I can muster today” Truffle murmured slowly, rising to her feet, Cybele walked over placing a gentle hand on the Moo’s shoulder, a warm, motherly smile cast down at her. “You did a wonderful job Truffle,” Cybele praised before turning her attention towards the tree. “I wish you hadn’t exerted yourself as much as you have, but it’s a learning experience all the same” she nodded before gently taking the young moo’s hands. “Come now, let me brew you some tea. You need to rest up some before I send you on your way” She chuckled as the two moos made their way back to Cybele’s cozy little cottage.
